Libyan Desert Glass Specimen D in Floating Frame

Libyan Desert Glass is an impactite found in the Sahara Desert on the border between Libya and Egypt. Although there is still some argument among researchers behind the origins of Libyan Desert Glass, all agree it was created during a meteor shower 29 millioin years ago by either an airburst (the explosion of a meteor close to the earth) or an actual impact. A 2019 study heavily suggests it was the latter. The primary component of this glass is lechatelierite, a molten silica glass similar to quartz but lacking a crystal structure.

Although Libyan Desert Glass was officially "discovered" in 1932, it has been known by the people of the region for centuries. Perhaps the most famous example of Libyan Desert Glass is the fantastic lemon-yellow heart scarab found in King Tut's breastplate.

Libyan Desert Glass is special. It wouldn't have been used as the heart skarab of a pharaoh (King Tut) if it weren't, as for the ancient Egyptians, the heart was the center of thinking, memories, and moral values. Libyan Desert Glass has the powerful, intelligent vibration of other tektites such as moldavite (if you've ever held it in your hand, you know!) but unlike many tektites, its energy is positive and warm.
The best way to describe Libyan Desert Glass is a mix of Space, Sun, and Sand Energy. Space Energy comes from its impactite origins and makes it a favorite of starseeds and other highly sensitive people. It provides a direct link to the spiritual realms beyond what we can see. Sun Energy comes from its home in the desert as well as its birth from a high-energy impact, giving it warm and energetic Leo energy, raising confidence and self esteem. Sand Energy comes from the literal small pieces of sand that were trapped within at formation. As a literal piece of the earth, Sand Energy provides powerful grounding and direction.
