This Ammolite specimen is about 34.5mm x 25.5mm of beautiful green and gold, as well as rare purple and blue flash! It will come in the pictured 3.5" floating display frame.

Ammolite is covered with a resin by the preparer of the fossil in order to stabilize its beautiful Aragonite coating.

History | Science

Ammolite is the fossilized shells of Ammonites that once lived in the Western Interior Seaway, an ancient sea bed in what is now Alberta, Canada. The shells of these ammonites were replaced with Aragonite, but unlike many crystals, the beautiful red, green, and even purple or blue opalescent color play that Ammolite is known for is due to, not impurities inside the crystal, but the actual microstructure of the Aragonite. As the light rebounds from the layers within the Aragonite, the beautiful colors are seen. Thicker layers produce reds and greens, whereas more fragile, thinner layers produce blues and purples, making them far more rare.
In 1981, Ammolite was given gemstone status by the World Jewellery Confederation, making it one of 3 biogenic gemstones along with pearls and amber.

Metaphysical Properties

The energy of Ammolite can be likened to Labradorite both in its color play, caused by a similar function of layers within the stone, and in its energy. Ammolite is highly mystical and transformative, cutting through illusions and irrationality and connecting to higher realms of wisdom as well as the deeper, ancient wells of wisdom that all fossils possess.

Photography

Although we always strive to provide clear, accurate images of our crystals and other products, we photograph under professional lighting, which is meant to mimic sunlight. If you get your crystal and think it looks a little different under low or artificial light, try checking it out again in sunlight!

Our crystals are one-of-a-kind art, created by nature.

No two pieces are the same, and there is no such thing as "perfection" in nature.

When it comes to our hand-carved items, remember that artists work with and around imperfections, druzy pockets, and other natural variations to bring each carving out of a piece of natural stone.

We consider these imperfections to be one of the most wonderful parts of crystal collecting, and we invite you to embrace each carving's uniqueness!

We will always try to portray each piece honestly, so be sure to look closely at our images and videos to ensure you know what to expect.
