Dendritic opal and faceted labradorite beads swirl into a labradorite luster drop in a nod to the the ancient ammonite in this hand-formed sterling silver statement necklace!

This wearable sculpture hangs on a 16" - 18" adjustable sterling silver chain with a hand-made clasp.

History | Science

The sculpture of this necklace is modeled after the Ammonite, an extinct group from the phyllum Mollusca and class Cephalopoda that had a coiled shell, much like the "living fossil," the Nautilus.
This shape is especially important as the physical representation of the Fibonacci Sequence, a series of numbers put forth by its namesake, a mathematician in the early 13th Century.

The main beads of this necklace are Labradorite, a feldspar mineral most often found in igneous rocks such as basalt, gabbro, and norite. Labradorite is so well-known for its beautiful colorplay that can be viewed from different angles that the effect is called "labradorescence." Labradorescence is produced when light enters a rock and reflects from the planes within. As the light is reflected back and forth within the rock it is dispersed, causing the many different colors that Labradorite is known for.

Metaphysical Properties

Like it's living relative, the Nautilus, the Ammonite is a long-held symbol of growth, expansion, renewal, and of order amidst chaos due to its precise spiral shape.

Similarly, dendritic opals are a stone of spiritually growth, while also being as balancing and grounding as the trees that its dendritic nature echoes.

Because of its colorful iridescence, labradorite is said to be highly mystical with many metaphysical properties. At its base, labradorite is a stone of transformation, both spiritual and emotional. It cuts through any illusions or irrationality, and what is left is inner calm, direction, creativity, intuition, wisdom, and an energized imagination.

Altogether, this necklace symbolizes growth and transformation while still staying grounded in order, much like the hypnotic shape of the ammonite it is named after.

Photography

Although we always strive to provide clear, accurate images of our crystals and other products, we photograph under professional lighting, which is meant to mimic sunlight. If you get your crystal and think it looks a little different under low or artificial light, try checking it out again in sunlight!

Our crystals are one-of-a-kind art, created by nature.

No two pieces are the same, and there is no such thing as "perfection" in nature.

When it comes to our hand-carved items, remember that artists work with and around imperfections, druzy pockets, and other natural variations to bring each carving out of a piece of natural stone.

We consider these imperfections to be one of the most wonderful parts of crystal collecting, and we invite you to embrace each carving's uniqueness!

We will always try to portray each piece honestly, so be sure to look closely at our images and videos to ensure you know what to expect.
