More Rune Information

The Elder Futhark is the oldest form of runic alphabet. It was developed and used by the Germanic people of Scandinavia during the Migratory period in the 2nd to 10th centuries, with the full 24-symbol alphabet in use by the 5th century. It has been found inscribed on jewelry, dishes, tools, and weapons in addition to runestones.
In Norse mythology, it was Odin himself who brought the runes to mankind, in a dramatic story in which Odin sacrificed himself to himself on Yggdrasil, the tree of life, in order to give runes their power.
The word rune simply means, "mystery," and the Elder Futhark became just that as the alphabet was simplified and changed, leading to its knowledge becoming lost until 1865 when a Norwegian scholar was able to decipher it.
In addition to being an alphabet, the Elder Futhark was an important magical tool, with each rune representing some combination of 3 different things- 1. A god or concept from Norse mythology, 2. An object or concept from Nature, and 3. An object or concept from daily life. The runes were used to tell fortunes, cast spells, and provide protection.

In modern days, Rune stones have become a popular method of divination, and those that seek to understand them can find information in books as well as the internet.

Crystal Information

Moonstone generally comes in white with a characteristic blue flash, but it is also found in peach, grey, yellow, and most recently, black. It is in the feldspar group and is related to labradorite in its flash that shows up when the stone is viewed from different angles. In Moonstone, however, this phenomena is called adularescence, an effect caused by light diffracting through alternating layers of orthoclast and albite within the stone.

In ancient Rome, it was believed that the pearly sheen of the Moonstone was a shard of solid moonlight. It was said that those who glanced into the stone could see the Goddess Diana and that this pearly talisman would bring love and fortune to the wearer.

Moonstone is a stone of compassionate, healing wisdom and feminine intuition.

Photography
Although we always strive to provide clear, accurate images of our crystals and other products, we photograph under professional lighting, which is meant to mimic sunlight. If you get your piece and think it looks a little different under low or artificial light, try checking it out again in sunlight!

Our crystals are one-of-a-kind art, created by nature.
No two pieces are the same, and there is no such thing as "perfection" in nature.

When it comes to our hand-carved items, remember that artists work with and around imperfections, druzy pockets, and other natural variations to bring each carving out of a piece of natural stone.

We consider these imperfections to be one of the most wonderful parts of crystal collecting, and we invite you to embrace each carving's uniqueness!

We will always try to portray each piece honestly, so be sure to look closely at our images and videos to ensure you know what to expect.
