History | Science

In the family of Opals, there are precious Opals, such as Boulder Opals, which are the iridescent kind we're familiar with in jewelry and October's birthstone. And then there are "Common" Opals, which comes in lovely shades of pink, green, white, blue, and more. All opals are made of silica and water with the silica particles arranged in spherical shapes that can be seen microscopically. In Precious opals, these silica spheres are all the same size, arranged in a grid-like pattern that causes the light entering the opal to refract and producing their beautiful rainbow colors. In common opals, the silica spheres are different sizes and in disorganized patterns.
Green opal can come in shades from chartreuse all the way to deep forest green. The green color is usually caused by Nickel impurities that were present in their formation.

Metaphysical Properties

Like most green stones, Green Opal is a stone of abundance and grounding. The differences are often in how they reach this goal. For Green Opal, abundance and grounding come from rejuvenation of the spirit and the release of the old things that do not serve us, in order to safely and healthily bring in the new things that do.

Photography

Although we always strive to provide clear, accurate images of our crystals and other products, we photograph under professional lighting, which is meant to mimic sunlight. If you get your crystal and think it looks a little different under low or artificial light, try checking it out again in sunlight!

Our crystals are one-of-a-kind art, created by nature.

No two pieces are the same, and there is no such thing as "perfection" in nature.

When it comes to our hand-carved items, remember that artists work with and around imperfections, druzy pockets, and other natural variations to bring each carving out of a piece of natural stone.

We consider these imperfections to be one of the most wonderful parts of crystal collecting, and we invite you to embrace each carving's uniqueness!

We will always try to portray each piece honestly, so be sure to look closely at our images and videos to ensure you know what to expect.
