This beautiful slice of petrified wood is polished to showcase the beautiful colors that petrified wood from Washington State is so well-known for!
It is 6.5" x 4" and will come with an acrylic stand.

This piece comes from Vantage, Washington, close to the well-known Gingko Petrified Forest State Park. (It did not come from the state park, itself, as gathering specimen is illegal in order to preserve the park's history and beauty.)

History | Science

The process creating Petrified Wood, perimineralization, happens over thousands of years when a piece of wood just happens to fall into mineral-rich water, mud, or volcanic ash. While most wood will decompose, the lack of oxygen in these environments slows down natural decomposition. The wood then undergoes the transformation of minerals seeping into the porous wood and replacing organic material as it breaks down over time.
As each tree is unique and the exact minerals available in the spot where it falls are unique, as well, each piece of petrified wood is a one-of-a-kind piece of art, as well as a beautiful piece of ancient history.

Washington is home to so many diverse, colorful species of petrified wood that Petrified Wood has become the state gemstone of Washington State. Washington is also home to Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park, which got its name due to the rare Ginkgo fossils found there.
The petrified wood of Washington is some of the youngest found, giving scientists a glimpse into the forests that stood there before they were preserved in the aftermath of volcanic eruptions 15 million years ago during the Miocene Period.

Due to this diversity of species, it's difficult to know for sure, but our research points to this piece most likely being conifer.

Metaphysical Properties

Petrified wood has a soothing and calm energy that helps firmly root us in reality. It teaches patience and wisdom in transformation, bringing peace and serenity.
Even moreso than other fossils, Petrified Wood is a source of patient wisdom, as well. Trees have a longer lifespan than other living creatures, gathering rings every year. Between the rings of petrified wood, you can find all the wisdom of a long life as well as that of the thousands to millions of transformative years becoming the stone it is today.

Photography

Although we always strive to provide clear, accurate images of our crystals and other products, we photograph under professional lighting, which is meant to mimic sunlight. If you get your crystal and think it looks a little different under low or artificial light, try checking it out again in sunlight!

Our crystals are one-of-a-kind art, created by nature.

No two pieces are the same, and there is no such thing as "perfection" in nature.

When it comes to our hand-carved items, remember that artists work with and around imperfections, druzy pockets, and other natural variations to bring each carving out of a piece of natural stone.

We consider these imperfections to be one of the most wonderful parts of crystal collecting, and we invite you to embrace each carving's uniqueness!

We will always try to portray each piece honestly, so be sure to look closely at our images and videos to ensure you know what to expect.
