Clear quartz has a history as old as time. Ancient Greeks called the water-clear stones "krystallos" which is where we eventually got the term "crystal". The word "quartz," however, is an old German word of uncertain origin that we can trace as far back as 1530.
In present times, besides being a beautiful part of any crystal lover's collection, quartz is important. Tiny pieces of "quartz sand" are used in the production of industrial and residential glass as well as in developing fiber optics and laboratory vessels.
Also called "Iron Pyrite" or "Fool's Gold" for its role in confusing miners hoping for a big break, Pyrite is a naturally occuring iron disulfide mineral. The name "Pyrite" comes from the Greek "Pyr," which means "fire," due to the spark it emits when hit with metal. In fact, Pyrite specimen found in prehistoric burial sites suggests that it was, in fact, used as a fire-starter before more sophisticated methods were invented.
In modern times, in addition to being kept for its beauty, lower-grade pyrite is used to create iron sulfate, which is used in nutritional supplements to treat anemia, ink, lawn conditioner, and even water treatment.

Photography
Although we always strive to provide clear, accurate images of our crystals and other products, we photograph under professional lighting, which is meant to mimic sunlight. If you get your crystal and think it looks a little different under low or artificial light, try checking it out again in sunlight!
Our crystals are one-of-a-kind art, created by nature.
No two pieces are the same, and there is no such thing as "perfection" in nature.
When it comes to our hand-carved items, remember that artists work with and around imperfections, druzy pockets, and other natural variations to bring each carving out of a piece of natural stone.
We consider these imperfections to be one of the most wonderful parts of crystal collecting, and we invite you to embrace each carving's uniqueness!
We will always try to portray each piece honestly, so be sure to look closely at our images and videos to ensure you know what to expect.
