History | Science

Amazonite is a feldspar that gets its name from the Amazon River where it was said to have been found, although it is unclear whether the green stones that were found there in ancient times really were Amazonite. Amazonite has certainly been used since ancient times, however, as it has been found in jewelry dating back to ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia.
Amazonite's color has been a source of mystery, as though one might think it was a copper material, research has pointed to lead along with trace amounts of other minerals. Though Amazonite is found in many places around the world, the conditions for its formation are clearly very specific!

Metaphysical Properties

Amazonite has been a bit of a mystery stone, from the cause of its lovely green-to-blue-green color to the fact that, although it has been found to have been used as jewelry by multiple ancient civilizations, we know very little about how it was used metaphysically. There is no mention of it in the historical record until the early 18th century! Amazonite seems to like this mysterious connotation, as it has become the stone of searching for ultimate truth and the peace, empowerment, and freedom from judgement that comes from a deep understanding of one's truth. It is also a stone of communication, as regardless of its depth (or perhaps due to its depth), Amazonite is a peaceful stone. After all, when one understands oneself, communication with others flows much more easily! As such, it is a great stone to have around when difficult topics arise.

Photography

Although we always strive to provide clear, accurate images of our crystals and other products, we photograph under professional lighting, which is meant to mimic sunlight. If you get your crystal and think it looks a little different under low or artificial light, try checking it out again in sunlight!

Our crystals are one-of-a-kind art, created by nature.

No two pieces are the same, and there is no such thing as "perfection" in nature.

When it comes to our hand-carved items, remember that artists work with and around imperfections, druzy pockets, and other natural variations to bring each carving out of a piece of natural stone.

We consider these imperfections to be one of the most wonderful parts of crystal collecting, and we invite you to embrace each carving's uniqueness!

We will always try to portray each piece honestly, so be sure to look closely at our images and videos to ensure you know what to expect.
