History | Science

"Linga" means "symbol" or "evidence" in Sanskrit, most commonly associated with the Shiva Lingam, a symbol of the Hindu god, Shiva, as a cylindrical shape that represents the infinite nature of the universe, without beginning or end. Shiva Lingam stones have borrowed this name due to their cylindrical quality, having been shaped and polished naturally in the flow of the sacred Narmada River in India. The stones are gathered by villagers there and are polished to the smooth finish that we associate with them.

Shiva Lingam stones are primarily made of jasper, a microcrystalline quartz material, with colors that are due to impurities of Iron Oxide.

They range in size from less than inch to as large as 10 feet!

Though it is widely believed in western society that the Shiva Lingam represents the phallus of Shiva, this is an extreme oversimplification, as it would be more appropriate to say that it represents the manner in which mankind becomes infinite.

Metaphysical Properties

As a symbol of the Hindu god, Shiva, the Shiva Lingam is about the infinite, connected, and balanced power of the Universe. An excellent tool for meditation, the Shiva Lingam is a reminder that the Universe is infinite, and so are we, allowing us to open ourselves to the power and wisdom that comes from this deep connection to all things.

Photography

Although we always strive to provide clear, accurate images of our crystals and other products, we photograph under professional lighting, which is meant to mimic sunlight. If you get your crystal and think it looks a little different under low or artificial light, try checking it out again in sunlight!

Our crystals are one-of-a-kind art, created by nature.

No two pieces are the same, and there is no such thing as "perfection" in nature.

When it comes to our hand-carved items, remember that artists work with and around imperfections, druzy pockets, and other natural variations to bring each carving out of a piece of natural stone.

We consider these imperfections to be one of the most wonderful parts of crystal collecting, and we invite you to embrace each carving's uniqueness!

We will always try to portray each piece honestly, so be sure to look closely at our images and videos to ensure you know what to expect.
