History | Science

Septarian Eggs (AKA Polished Septarian Nodules) were formed 50 - 70 million years ago when volcanic eruptions, ocean sediment, and dead sea life condensed into mud balls. As the oceans receded and the mud balls dried out, shrank, and cracked, the beautiful druzy and distinctive shapes were formed. Septarian Eggs are often polished to bring attention to their "egg" look, as this piece is, but they truly have a unique natural shape!
Septarian gets its name from the Latin "septum" meaning "seven." This is due to the fact that the mud balls tended to crack in 7 directions, creating the patterns that Septarian is known for.

Metaphysical Properties

With its distinctive shapes and deep, dark color, septarian is a particularly powerful stone. It encourages healing of the body, mind, and soul while providing the protection and grounding needed to move forward. And as Septarian essentially contains fossilized ocean mud, volcanic material, and even prehistoric sea life, it brings with it the wisdom we find in fossils, as well.

Photography

Although we always strive to provide clear, accurate images of our crystals and other products, we photograph under professional lighting, which is meant to mimic sunlight. If you get your crystal and think it looks a little different under low or artificial light, try checking it out again in sunlight!

Our crystals are one-of-a-kind art, created by nature.

No two pieces are the same, and there is no such thing as "perfection" in nature.

When it comes to our hand-carved items, remember that artists work with and around imperfections, druzy pockets, and other natural variations to bring each carving out of a piece of natural stone.

We consider these imperfections to be one of the most wonderful parts of crystal collecting, and we invite you to embrace each carving's uniqueness!

We will always try to portray each piece honestly, so be sure to look closely at our images and videos to ensure you know what to expect.
