History | Science

The name "tektite" is derived from the Greek word "tektos," which means "melted." This is apt, as tektites are pitted silicate glass caused by the impact of a hypervelocity meteorite collision with earth. The silica-rich ground material is rapidly heated and then cools.
Historically, tektites were first described in T'ang Dynasty China around 900 BCE as "inkstones of the Thundergods."
Research was sporadic on tektites in general until French minerologist and geologist, Alfred Lacroix, described a large tektite deposit in Indonesia in the late 19th century.

Indochinite tektites are found throughout Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. They are the result of a meteorite impact that is estimated to have happened around 700,000 years old.

Metaphysical Properties

Due to their origin being the effect of an extraterrestrial phenomena (a meteorite impact with earth), tektites are closely associated with otherworldly energy and wisdom. Ultimately, although each type of tektite does this a little differently and with varying degrees of intensity, tektites are here to bring alignment to the chakras and to one's life through awakening of spiritual gifts, cleansing to remove energetic blocks, and encouraging powerful transformation for the greatest good.

Indochinites and other black tektites are said to be particularly excellent at the emotional transformation part of this, which makes them wonderful for those who are in need of transformative change without the level of intensity that can leave one feeling rather spiritually beat up, such as moldavite can sometimes bring.

Photography

Although we always strive to provide clear, accurate images of our crystals and other products, we photograph under professional lighting, which is meant to mimic sunlight. If you get your crystal and think it looks a little different under low or artificial light, try checking it out again in sunlight!

Our crystals are one-of-a-kind art, created by nature.

No two pieces are the same, and there is no such thing as "perfection" in nature.

When it comes to our hand-carved items, remember that artists work with and around imperfections, druzy pockets, and other natural variations to bring each carving out of a piece of natural stone.

We consider these imperfections to be one of the most wonderful parts of crystal collecting, and we invite you to embrace each carving's uniqueness!

We will always try to portray each piece honestly, so be sure to look closely at our images and videos to ensure you know what to expect.
